Hi,

Additionally to the Genesys Digital AP project underway, and since we discounted the Avidynhe FC 90 as "does not interface with Garmin G500 & GTN", today I'm reading about Garmin's new GFC600. I'm not sure what features the Genesys will have, nor pricing, but the Garmin is said to "start" at 20 000,- USD and to include:

  • ESP electronic stability control with overspeed and underspeed protection
  • Autopilot mode display on Garmin G500, and obviously flight director
  • Full approach coupling with "a variety of GPS navigators and VHF nav radios"
  • Also interfaces with Aspen's Evolution PFD; I'm not sure to what extent. Not sure if any Silver Eagle has those.

Anybody has particular thoughts or comments? Any contacts with Garmin to see if they have a P210 STC on planning? I guess the overspeed protection would need to be changed for the Silver Eagle, since our maximum indicated speed is lower.

I asked Garmin about their STC planning, and they say the Cessna 210 is on their roadmap, but the Silver Eagle "is likely going to require separate approval".

Hi Guys,

as of today the New Digital STEC AP is on the market and we got the P210 STC. You should have a look on it...

I will ask my shop. My assumption is (if you have an STEC 55X) it will be very close to a "plug and play" exchange...

Do I understand correctly that the S-Tec 3100 has "envelope protection" only when it is engaged, but the Garmin GFC600 on a permanent basis?

The really important stuff for me is: will it take the altitude preselect, the vertical speed (in vertical speed mode), the IAS (in IAS hold mode, what Garmin calls FLC), the barometric setting, etc, etc from the G500? I can live without "Autopilot mode display on Garmin G500", but IMO having a bug on the G500 but the AP following another setting is something I want to get rid of.

Any news from Garmin on the P210 / Silver Eagle STC? Depending on the answers on the above, we have to make decision whether we hold on and wait for the Garmin or go for the STEC

Hi Guys, I am in close contact with Genesys. They would be ready to include the STC for the C10T, but they need a plane for some test flights. Would be someone ready to support this project? pls. pm me!

Here the email rom Genesys:

"Our ODA has looked into your request and as you stated we can include the turboprop conversions on our STC as long as we use one of the aircraft for the certification flight testing.

Is there a member that has an “N” registered Silver Eagle in the States preferably close to Dallas, TX that could provide there aircraft for the test flights?"

Will the P210N STC apply to the Silver Eagle conversions without further approval requirements?

FAA...has to be checked...here in EASA Europe yes...

I think we have to differentiate between an STC and a well-balanced AP. The STC would legally allow us to install that AP…but this doesn’t mean that it will work perfectly with the turbine…It would be a bet…
It’s certainly better to test it and to adapt it to the different characteristics of the turbine…

I am in contact with genesys about this topic...

I volunteered my SE as a test bed for this installation, if they could do it out of the KOAK area, but they haven’t accepted my offer. My AP shop is Executive Autopilots in Sacramento (KSAC) and I think they are S-Tec/Genesys dealers - maybe they could get involved.

A wise reply, Georg. Clearly we would like to be sure we are getting a real step-up before parting with that sort of money. The 55X does a reasonable job for me but I find that it tends to overshoot, slightly, on heading changes and on settling onto a new leg, necessitating a small reversal before becoming steady. Anyone else have this, or have a perfectly performing 55X?
