Has anyone had success in getting an order delivered? I have repeatedly asked following the granting of the STC but still do not have a unit.

Update - my plane is in the shop as we speak for installation. Apparently the pitch servo has to be removed and sent to STEC for some modifications. We are awaiting its return.

Would value any reports on the 3100 in the Silver Eagle - I read of a number of stability issues in the broader (Beechtalk) community and wondered whether Genesys had got them nailed on our aircraft.

Would you have a direct link to the Beechtalk discussions?

The STEC 3100 has been installed on the Silver Eagle I manage. Pilot reports are not completely encouraging. The AP flies straight & level and enroute turns correctly in smooth air, but often as little as a single smallish turbulence will destabilise it and it makes the plane enter an AP-induced dutch roll. It behaves less bad without yaw damper, but will still on occasion enter roll oscillations that the autopilot seems to induce. If one fights the autopilot and restabilise the plane by hand, it will usually stay put for a while.

The autopilot rather often has a failure (auto-disconnects) when flying low. Less so when established in higher level cruise.

ILS intercept performance is poor (at 150-160 kts, a speed taken to integrate with the heavy iron traffic). It overshoots the localiser (by more than half deviation), turns back, overshoots again. Up to now, we didn't have a pilot leave it a third chance, at that point we turn the AP off and fly the approach by hand.

GNSS-based RNAV approaches work better.

We are waiting for special software from Genesys to connect a computer to the autopilot and record debugging data in real time.

Thanks for the update. That is really helpful to know.

I read this on beechtalk.com

Quote
I’ve had the STEC 3100 for a few months now. It started out bad, really bad. Porpoising constantly and unable to hold a track. Apparently the software was wrong, it was delivered with software for a 28v system and I have a 14v system. Software update fixed the porpoising issue, but the I started getting constant autopilot failures.

The autopilot failures became so frequent that the autopilot was unusable. One time it shut off as I was in a climbing turn on a SID in solid IMC. I was not amused.

It spent another 2.5 months at the shop getting issues sorted out, and now it seems to be working well. I flew it about 15 hours over the weekend with no real issues and it held track and altitude rock solid. I’m still reluctant to trust it in IMC, but if it continues to perform well, I’ll try it on a couple of approaches.

Did you get yours fitted at Bonn Hangelar?

No, my usual shop (International Aviation Support in Teuge EHTE) did it.
