Does anyone have recent experience securing reasonable cost for insurance coverage for Silver Eagle Transatlantic flights?
Our long time insurance broker and underwriter has declined coverage for our planned roundtrip from Goose Bay CYYR to London via BGBW BIRK & BGPK - they cited "lack of recovery services in Greenland, Iceland and the UK - they are offered to look on secondary market but they expect premium to be in range of US$25,000
Appreciate knowing recent insurance experiences from fellow Silver Eagle pilots who have made the transatlantic crossing
On the way from O&N back to the UK in my conversion, the cheapest way to do it was to go for a US-based policy which covered me worldwide, which I subsequently cancelled for a pro-rata refund on arrival in the UK. Even though the US policy, annualised, was double the cost of an EU-based insurer, the value was in the worldwide cover that covered the ferry trip.
I now use visicover.com - and I can certainly recommend their rates.
